Labourers
In a distressing incident, at least five labourers were forcefully abducted from Hoshab tehsil in Balochistan’s Kech district on Wednesday, as reported by Levies officials. The abduction took place while the labourers, all reportedly from Punjab, were engaged in installing a new tower for a mobile telecom company. Disturbingly, they were operating without adequate security measures in place.
Following the abduction, the local administration swiftly responded by cordoning off the area. The victims were identified as Nazir Ahmed, Mohammad Tariq, Safdar Ali, Farooq, and Hasnain. All were working on the installation project for the telecom tower when they were seized by five armed men.
The deputy commissioner of Kech has taken immediate action, dispatching a team of Levies officials to the area to conduct a thorough search for the kidnapped workers. This incident underscores the vulnerability of workers in certain regions, particularly when engaged in tasks without sufficient security arrangements.
It is noteworthy that incidents of violence against labourers in Balochistan have been reported in the past. Last October, four labourers were injured in an attack involving a hand grenade and gunfire at a construction company in the Mangocher area of Kalat, Balochistan.
The latest abduction adds to the security concerns in the region, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the abducted workers. Such incidents not only jeopardize the safety of the workers involved but also highlight the broader security challenges in certain parts of Balochistan.
