Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Umar Ayub, has formally reached out to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), emphasizing the importance of transparency and the rule of law in Pakistan. His letter, sent during the IMF mission’s ongoing visit, also includes evidence of alleged electoral rigging in the recent general elections.
In his communication, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader underscored that economic stability and political integrity are closely linked. He argued that free and fair elections, alongside adherence to constitutional principles, are fundamental to fostering sustainable economic growth and restoring investor confidence.
Ayub enclosed a dossier previously submitted to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, which he described as undeniable proof of election manipulation. He accused state institutions, including the Election Commission, of orchestrating efforts to suppress PTI and manipulate electoral outcomes.
Additionally, Ayub referenced a report by the NGO Pattan, which he claims provides independent verification of electoral fraud. He stressed that these irregularities undermine Pakistan’s democratic foundations and jeopardize international trust in the country’s governance.
The opposition leader also recalled that PTI’s founder had previously raised concerns about electoral transparency in a July 7, 2023, meeting with an IMF delegation. During that meeting, he had warned that without the rule of law, economic progress would remain elusive.
Ayub called on the IMF and other international organizations to take note of these concerns and ensure that governance standards in Pakistan align with democratic principles. He emphasized that without genuine political accountability, economic policies would lack legitimacy, ultimately harming Pakistan’s long-term stability.
Concluding his letter, Ayub reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and constitutional adherence, offering to provide further details to ensure democratic integrity in the country.
