Two Pakistan Army personnel were martyred and 11 terrorists eliminated in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan, according to a statement issued by the military on Tuesday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the operation was launched on June 24, 2025, following reports about the presence of militants affiliated with “Fitna-al-Khwarij,” a group the government has described as an Indian-backed proxy.
The operation led to the deaths of 11 militants and injuries to seven others after security forces engaged their location effectively.
Tragically, Major Syed Moiz Abbas Shah (37), a resident of Chakwal, and Lance Naik Jibran Ullah (27), from Bannu, were martyred during the exchange of fire. Major Moiz, who led his men from the front, was praised for his bravery and past contributions to counter-terror operations.
ISPR noted that follow-up sanitisation efforts were underway to clear the area of any remaining militants. The military reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism, particularly that which is allegedly supported by India.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, praising their bravery and sacrifice in defeating hostile elements and protecting the nation.
“These martyrs stood as a formidable barrier against malicious plots and are true national heroes. Their sacrifice sends a strong message to the enemy and will be remembered with pride,” he said.
Earlier this month, five militants were killed in separate operations in Peshawar and North Waziristan, which were also linked to Indian-sponsored groups.
ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has previously accused India of activating its militant assets to escalate attacks in Pakistan. He cited “credible evidence” linking these attacks to Indian military officials and their strategic directives.
Pakistan has faced an increasing number of militant incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire with the government in late 2022.
