Twitter unveiled its new logo, replacing the iconic blue bird with a white X on a black background. It is considered a part of its rebranding efforts to become known as “X.”
While the social media network’s website now displays the new logo, the URL still remains twitter.com, and the familiar blue “Tweet” button remains visible. Some users have reported seeing a blue version of the X logo. It suggests that the rollout may not be fully completed yet.
The announcement of the new logo was made on Sunday by Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, and the company’s CEO. They revealed the company’s intention to rename itself as “X” and expand its focus towards payments, banking, and commerce.
Twitter, which was founded in 2006, derived its name from the sound of birds chattering and has long used avian branding. This dates back to its early days when the company purchased a stock symbol of a light blue bird for a mere $15, according to the design website Creative Bloq.
Linda Yaccarino, Twitter’s chief executive, shared a picture of the new logo on Sunday night. She expressed enthusiasm with the words, “X is here! Let’s do this.”
Furthermore, Elon Musk updated his Twitter profile picture to feature the new logo. He also changed his Twitter bio to “X.com,” which now redirects to twitter.com.
Elon Musk’s Vision
Musk had already named Twitter’s parent company as the X Corporation. He stated that his acquisition of the social media giant would accelerate the creation of “X, the everything app.” This refers to X.com, a company he founded in 1999, which later evolved into the online payments giant, PayPal.
Under the new identity, a post on the platform will be called “an X,” and Musk’s vision for X.com is an all-encompassing app that connects people in ways that go beyond our current imagination, powered by AI. This futuristic app could serve as a social media platform, as well as include messaging and mobile payments.
