U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed the possibility of deporting Prince Harry despite an ongoing legal battle over his immigration records. However, he did not hold back criticism of Meghan Markle, calling her “terrible.”
Speaking to the New York Post on Friday, Trump shut down speculation about the Duke of Sussex being forced to leave the United States. “I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone,” he said.
However, he was far less forgiving toward Meghan, remarking, “He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
Trump’s comments come amid a lawsuit filed by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, seeking access to Prince Harry’s visa records. The case questions whether the Duke received preferential treatment from the Biden administration, particularly given his admissions in Spare, his memoir, where he acknowledged past drug use, including cocaine and cannabis.
The lawsuit, filed against the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C., argues that U.S. immigration laws should be enforced consistently. Under U.S. law, a history of drug use can make a visa applicant inadmissible, though waivers are sometimes granted.
Prince Harry, who stepped down as a working royal and moved to the U.S. with Meghan in 2020, has not publicly responded to Trump’s remarks. The controversy follows his recent trip to Vancouver, Canada, where he launched the 2025 Invictus Games.
