Tragedy at Chaman Border
RAWALPINDI: A tragic incident unfolded at the Chaman border crossing, where an Afghan sentry’s unprovoked and indiscriminate firing took the lives of two Pakistani citizens, including a 12-year-old boy.
Another child sustained injuries in the horrifying incident, which occurred at 4:00 pm at the Friendship Gate.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the Afghan sentry, stationed at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border crossing, suddenly opened fire on pedestrians making their way from Pakistan to Afghanistan.
The unprovoked nature of the attack added to the shock and sorrow surrounding the event.
Such incidents of violence at border crossings not only result in tragic loss of life but also strain the already delicate relations between neighboring countries.
The Chaman border has historically been a point of both trade and tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The loss of innocent lives, particularly that of a young child, underscores the need for diplomatic efforts to maintain peace and security along border regions, preventing such heartbreaking events from recurring in the future.
