ISLAMABAD: The top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are likely to visit Pakistan during the upcoming Asia Cup, which is scheduled to start on August 30.
BCCI President Roger Binny and Vice President Rajeev Shukla are expected to travel to Pakistan in response to an invitation extended to the members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and other cricket boards to attend the event.
Furthermore, BCCI Secretary and ACC President Jay Shah has also received an invitation from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Apart from all ACC board members, invitations have also been extended to ICC Chairman Greg Barclay, ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice, and General Manager Cricket Wasim Khan.
It’s important to note that earlier, Jay Shah had refuted reports about his visit to Pakistan to watch the Asia Cup match.
From August 30 to September 17, the 2023 Asia Cup will unfold in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
However, Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside Nepal and India, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.
Scheduled for August 30 in Multan, the Pakistan cricket team will compete in the opening match of the tournament against Nepal, marking Nepal’s debut appearance in the Asia Cup.
Punjab Government Requests Army Deployment For Security During Asia Cup 2023
The Punjab Interior Ministry has formally requested the deployment of the Pakistan Army for security during the Asia Cup 2023.
They have submitted a summary outlining the deployment of Rangers and the Army for the Asia Cup to the federal government.
Once the Interior Ministry approves it, they will allocate the services of Rangers and the Pakistan Army to the Punjab government
The Asia Cup for this year will commence with Pakistan, the host nation, facing Nepal in the opening match on August 30 in Multan. Pakistan will host four matches, including a Super 4s fixture.
India will host its group stage matches, notably the highly-anticipated encounter against Pakistan on September 2, in Kandy, with the remaining Super 4s matches, including the final, set to be conducted in Colombo.
In the event that both teams qualify for the Super 4s, arch-rivals Pakistan and India will once again meet on September 10 in Colombo.
