Lahore High Court Dismisses Petition on Arrest of Former Adiala Jail Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram

The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench dismissed a petition concerning the arrest of Muhammad Akram, the former Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail. The dismissal occurred after the petitioner’s lawyer, Eman Mazari, withdrew the petition following confirmation of Akram’s arrest.

During the proceedings, the Assistant Advocate General informed the court that Akram had been apprehended by the Sheikhupura Anti-Corruption Establishment on bribery charges, specifically for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs95,000. The court was further notified that a physical remand for Akram had been secured from the Sheikhupura Anti-Corruption Court, allowing law enforcement to hold him for further investigation.

The petition had been filed by Meemona, Akram’s wife, seeking relief in light of his arrest. However, the developments in the case led to the decision to withdraw the petition. Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, presiding over the hearing, subsequently dismissed the case without further action.

This incident reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to combat corruption within law enforcement agencies, as highlighted by recent arrests of additional Adiala Jail staff members allegedly involved in facilitating former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Lahore High Court’s decision underscores the legal ramifications surrounding corruption allegations in Pakistan’s justice system, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing such issues.
