Swedish Police Grant Permit for Protest Intending to Desecrate Holy Quran

ISLAMABAD: According to the reports, Swedish police have issued a permit for a protest scheduled to take place outside parliament Today. The organizers of the protest have planned to desecrate the Holy Quran during the event.

The protesters informed the media about their demand for the banning of the holy book in Sweden.

“I will burn it many times, until you ban it,” said the organizer Salwan Najem .

Najem had participated in two previous protests in Stockholm alongside Iraqi refugee Salwan Momika. One of the protests took place outside the city’s main mosque, and the other outside Iraq’s embassy.

According to the police permit, the protesters have sheduled the protest for 1pm (1100 GMT) Today.

Sweden has seen its diplomatic relations with several Middle Eastern nations strained over previous protests involving the Holy Quran’s desecrations.

Swedish police have emphasized that they grant permits for public gatherings but not for the specific activities carried out during the events.

In late June, Momika, aged 37, engaged in an act of burning pages of the Holy Quran outside Stockholm’s main mosque.

A month later, he organized a similar protest outside the Iraqi embassy, during which he stomped on the Holy Quran but departed before burning it.

Both of these incidents sparked significant outrage and condemnation.

Last week, Sweden issued orders to 15 government bodies, including the armed forces, various law enforcement agencies, and the tax office, to enhance their anti-terrorism measures.

Following the incidents of desecration of the Holy Quran in the country, Denmark announced that it would investigate legal measures to prevent protests involving the burning of holy texts, citing security concerns.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson mentioned that a similar process was already in progress.

Middle Eastern Nations Summon Envoys,OIC Meeting Called Over Quran Desecration

Following the incidents, several Middle Eastern countries have summoned the envoys of both Sweden and Denmark.

Saudi Arabia and Iraq have requested a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), based in Jeddah, which is expected to take place Today. The meeting aims to address the desecrations that occurred in both Sweden and Denmark.
