Karachi’s Malir Land Case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court, consisting of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Amin ud Din Khan, and Justice Athar Minallah, has issued notices to 10 different entities and individuals who allegedly remitted about £136 million and about $44 million from abroad (around Rs35 billion at the time).

The court ordered the issuance of notices to various entities and individuals involved in the remittances, including Fortune Event Limited, Emirates Dubai, Mubashara Ali Malik, Bina Riaz, Sana Salman, Mashreq Bank, Ultimate Holdings MGT LTD, Premier Investments Global Ltd, Ahmed Ali Riaz, Premier Investments Global Ltd, and Wedlake Bell LLP.

The court highlighted that in a 2019 consent order, the price of the land was set at Rs460 billion, with specific terms for payment. In the event of non-payment, certain individuals, including Malik Riaz Hussain, Ahmed Ali Riaz, Mrs. Bina Riaz, and Mr. Zain Malik, had guaranteed the payment.

Only Rs60.72 billion out of Rs460 billion was paid, and Bahria Town paid just Rs24.26 billion of that amount. In response to the court’s inquiry, Bahria Town’s counsel, Salman Aslam Butt, mentioned that remittances were sent and paid pursuant to an agreement, and he would provide the necessary documents.

The court scheduled the next hearing for November 8, emphasizing that no adjournments would be granted, and absent counsel should make alternative arrangements. Overall, The Supreme Court has issued notices to 10 entities and individuals in the Karachi’s Malir Land Case.
