ISLAMABAD: On July 9, 2024, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) celebrated the sixth anniversary of launching two pivotal satellites: the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-1) and the Pakistan Technology Evaluation Satellite (PakTES-1A). These satellites, launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China on July 9, 2018, represent significant milestones in Pakistan’s space capabilities.

PRSS-1 has played a crucial role in environmental monitoring, resource management, and disaster response. Its data has been instrumental in advancing these fields, providing vital insights and aiding in effective decision-making. PakTES-1A, designed and developed indigenously, showcases Pakistan’s growing expertise in satellite technology and its ability to create sophisticated space equipment.

In his address during the anniversary celebrations, the Chairman of SUPARCO highlighted the significant achievements made possible by these satellites. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing its space program, emphasizing the importance of the data and insights gained from PRSS-1 and PakTES-1A in contributing to national development and scientific research.

“The data and insights gained from PRSS-1 and PakTES-1A have significantly contributed to national development and scientific research,” the chairman stated. “As we celebrate this milestone, SUPARCO extends gratitude to all partners, scientists, and engineers who have made these missions successful, setting a solid foundation for future advancements in Pakistan’s space endeavors.”

SUPARCO’s ongoing projects, such as the upcoming launch of the MM-1 satellite to enhance internet connectivity in Pakistan, demonstrate its continuous efforts to expand and improve the country’s space capabilities. These achievements underscore SUPARCO’s dedication to fostering technological growth and innovation, paving the way for future advancements in Pakistan’s space initiatives.
