Steps to Verify Your Active Taxpayer List Status After Filing FBR Tax Returns

As the deadline for filing tax returns has been extended to October 14, many individuals are seeking ways to verify their inclusion on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL). To check, users can either send an SMS to 9966 or visit the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) IRIS portal.

To check via the FBR website, taxpayers need to go to the FBR homepage, select the “Income Tax—IRIS” option from the online services section, or search for “FBR IRIS” directly. Once on the portal, they should scroll down to the “Online Verifications” section and select the “Income Tax” option. After choosing the appropriate parameter (NTN, CNIC, Passport No, or registration number), they need to input their registration number, complete the CAPTCHA, and click “Verify” to view their status.

Taxpayers from Azad Jammu and Kashmir only need to input their registration number and CAPTCHA to complete the process.

Those using mobile phones can check their ATL status by sending an SMS to 9966 with the format “ATL [registration number].”

On Sunday, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced that the number of filers has reached 3.2 million this year, more than doubling last year’s figures. Notably, 723,000 new filers were added, compared to 300,000 in the previous year.
