PTI’s Dr. Shahid
LAHORE: Muhammad Qayyum, the son of Dr. Shahid Siddique, a prominent leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has confessed to orchestrating the murder of his own father.
The shocking revelation came to light during a press conference held by DIG Imran Kishwar from the Organised Crime Unit.
The investigation into Dr. Siddique’s assassination has led to the arrest of Muhammad Qayyum and several of his accomplices.
According to DIG Kishwar, the arrested individuals include Nawaz Ali, Muhammad Sajjad, Muhammad Shahid, and Saqlain Aslam. The police have successfully apprehended the shooter involved in the crime and recovered the murder weapon.
Muhammad Qayyum admitted to orchestrating the murder due to personal grievances with his father. DIG Kishwar revealed that Qayyum had a financial arrangement of Rs40 million for the assassination.
The motive behind this heinous act stemmed from a family dispute, specifically over Qayyum’s desire to marry a woman of his choosing, a wish that was vehemently opposed by Dr. Siddique.
The murder took place on August 2 in Lahore, Punjab, and caused widespread shock within the community. This was not the first attempt on Dr. Siddique’s life by Qayyum; in January, Qayyum had previously attacked his father but failed to kill him.
Following that unsuccessful attempt, Qayyum orchestrated a second plot, this time involving a deal worth Rs2 crore.
On the day of the murder, investigators discovered footage showing Qayyum’s car trailing his father’s vehicle.
After the assassination, Qayyum went on to publicly demand justice for his father’s killing and even participated in his father’s funeral prayer, further complicating the case.
All individuals involved in the plot, including the shooters, have been arrested, bringing some resolution to this tragic and disturbing case.
The police continue their investigation to uncover further details and motives behind this familial betrayal.
