A violent mob, disguised as the “Baloch Raji Muchi” or Baloch National Gathering, attacked security forces in Gwadar district of Balochistan, resulting in the martyrdom of one soldier and injuries to sixteen others, including an officer, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.
The unrest, orchestrated by the Balochistan Yakjehti Committee (BYC), targeted security personnel who were carrying out their duties in Gwadar. As a result of the attack, Sepoy Shabbir Baloch, 30, from district Sibi, was martyred. The assault also caused injuries to sixteen soldiers, including an officer.
The ISPR condemned the violence and highlighted that false and misleading propaganda is being spread on social media using doctored images and videos to garner sympathy for the unlawful protests. The military’s media wing called for public calm, urging citizens not to fall for the propaganda and to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure public safety and order.
The statement emphasized that despite provocations, security forces have exercised great restraint to prevent civilian casualties and affirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Balochistan. The BYC’s sit-in on the National Highway, which began after their convoys were prevented from attending a meeting last week, has now entered its third day. The Balochistan government has invited the protesters for negotiations.
