In a concerted effort to combat the pervasive issue of beggary in Karachi, the Sindh Police has initiated a robust crackdown against the Beggar Mafia.
Responding to directives from the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, an intensive 12-day operation has been launched to target professional beggars in Karachi. The IG has specifically instructed police officials to meticulously gather data, including photographs of children affiliated with the beggar mafia, throughout the operation.
Upon the completion of the data collection process encompassing all beggars in the city, the Sindh Police intends to implement decisive actions against the organized begging networks. This proactive measure reflects a commitment to addressing the persistent problem of beggary, particularly when associated with criminal elements.

Notably, in a disturbing incident last year, the beggar mafia was implicated in the abduction of a police officer, who was subsequently subjected to torture in an attempt to coerce him into joining their ranks.
Mustaqim Khalid, the missing policeman, was eventually recovered after seven years in Rawalpindi, with three gang members apprehended by the civil lines police. The police officer, revealing his unstable mental condition, disclosed that his abductors had resorted to breaking his legs to force him into begging.
The authorities have promptly informed the family of Mustakim Khalid about his recovery, signaling a commitment to addressing not only the criminal activities associated with organized begging but also the rehabilitation of those who have fallen victim to such networks.
This crackdown forms part of a broader strategy by law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks and mitigate the social challenges linked to organized begging.
