Youth Killing
In a significant development, the police have taken a step towards accountability by filing a First Information Report (FIR) against several of its officials regarding the alleged fake encounter of a Baloch youth in Turbat city, Balochistan.
The FIR was initiated based on the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Maula Bakhsh, who specifically named an official from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the Station House Officer (SHO) of Turbat police station, and an investigation officer, among others.
The incident in question occurred on November 23, when the CTD claimed to have encountered and killed four alleged terrorists during a firefight on Pasni Road in Turbat. However, the victim’s father, in his FIR, asserted that his son, Balach, was abducted by unidentified individuals on October 29 and held at an undisclosed location.
According to Bakhsh, CTD investigation officer Abdullah produced Balach before a session judge on November 21, who subsequently approved a 10-day judicial remand. Shockingly, Bakhsh received the distressing news on November 23 that his son, along with three others, had been killed in what he deemed a “fake encounter.”
Following the incident, protests erupted as demonstrators, including members of the victim’s family and civil society, staged a sit-in, demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killing. Responding to the public outcry, the Balochistan government decided to probe the matter, establishing an inquiry tribunal.
Comprising Secretary Fisheries Imran Gichki, DIG Quetta, SSP Gwadar, and DC Kech, the tribunal has been tasked with completing the investigation and submitting a comprehensive report within two weeks.
The provincial ministry of interior will then be responsible for implementing the tribunal’s recommendations, signaling a commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the face of alleged misconduct by law enforcement officials. Overall, police file FIR against officials for alleged youth killing in Turbat, Balochistan, citing a fake encounter on Saturday.
