Sher Afzal Marwat Criticizes KP Government for Overlooking Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Saturday for neglecting the party’s imprisoned founding chairman, Imran Khan, who has been held in Adiala jail, Rawalpindi, for over a year.

Speaking passionately at a rally for PTI supporters in Peshawar, Marwat accused party leaders of abandoning Khan during his time of need. He expressed disappointment over their infighting for ministries and party positions, stating that their loyalty to the imprisoned former prime minister had been overshadowed by internal disputes and personal ambitions.

“Some ministers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa prioritize their own benefits over the objectives of the PTI,” he remarked.

Marwat revealed he had received threats of expulsion from the party but declared that such intimidation would not dissuade him. He plans to meet with Imran Khan to discuss the situation in the KP government and to bring attention to alleged misconduct by certain officials, whom he believes should face prosecution rather than be rewarded with government roles.

He specifically condemned the recent promotion of a police officer who reportedly fired upon him in Bajaur, stating that the officer had been elevated to senior superintendent of police (SSP) in Peshawar.

The PTI leader emphasized his intention to relay these grievances to Imran Khan to challenge the current state of leadership within PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, advocating for a strong approach to aid in securing the release of the party founder.

Marwat’s comments follow reports of ongoing conflicts within the PTI, highlighted during the D-Chowk protests earlier this month and disagreements over the voting for the 26th Constitutional Amendment, where some party members voted contrary to the party’s stance.

In a related development, Zain Qureshi recently resigned as PTI’s deputy parliamentary leader after receiving a show-cause notice for distancing himself from PTI leadership during the passage of the amendment in both houses.

Marwat has also had public disagreements with fellow party members earlier this year, which led to the temporary suspension of his party membership in August. He later issued an apology for his critical remarks against PTI leaders.
