ROJHAN: Punjab police have claimed to have killed Shahid Lund, the notorious ringleader of the Lund gang, in an encounter during a joint operation by the Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur police. Initially, the police reported that Lund was shot dead by his own associate, Umar Lund, following a dispute, but later clarified that he was fatally shot by law enforcement during the operation.
Shahid Lund, wanted for several high-profile crimes including murder and kidnapping for ransom, had been on the run for some time. The Punjab government had announced a reward of Rs 10 million for his capture, underscoring the severity of his criminal activities.
The police initially claimed that after an argument between Shahid and Umar Lund, the latter opened fire, resulting in his death. However, the narrative quickly shifted, with police later confirming that Shahid Lund was killed in a joint operation conducted by the Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur police forces. The operation, which had been underway for two months, was aimed at eliminating criminal elements in the Katcha (riverine) area.
The Inspector General of Police praised the successful operation and commended the efforts of both police forces in apprehending dangerous criminals.
In a related development, during a separate operation against Katcha area dacoits, Sindh Rangers and police forces faced heavy resistance. One police officer was martyred, and two others were injured during the operation. The raid led to the killing of a most-wanted criminal, the brother of Malguzar Bhulkani, and the arrest of two injured suspects. Additionally, six other individuals were detained by the authorities during the joint operation.
