Senate Subcommittee orders the FIA to investigate the fake nurses matter

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Subcommittee on National Health Services, Regulation, and Coordination has directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate the issue of bogus affiliations of nurses with hospitals and the issuance of fake certificates by institutions registered with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).

Senate

The Senate subcommittee expressed dissatisfaction with the Ministry of National Health Services for its negligence. Lack of preparedness on this critical matter affects the lives of the people of Pakistan. It recommended bringing the matter to the attention of the prime minister.

The committee also requested details about the new nursing council following its notification. The convener of the subcommittee criticized the PNC, labeling its actions as “criminal negligence”. It also expressed concern over the negative impact it has had on the lives of people. The convener accused the PNC of engaging in corrupt practices and demanded an end to their activities.

The PNC representatives and relevant ministry officials were absent from the meeting, leading to criticism from the convener. The subcommittee questioned the absence and accused the ministry and the PNC of attempting to deceive them.

A representative explained the absence of the PNC chairman, Rafat Jan, stating that she had to attend a function at the Prime Minister’s Office. The subcommittee sought clarification and a specific invitation for the event. It expressed frustration that the PM Office event was prioritized over the important matter of fake nursing.

The subcommittee observed mala fide intent on the part of the PNC as they had nominated the IT incharge instead of the chairman to present the matter. The committee decided to bring the issue to the attention of the main committee for further action.

Furthermore, the subcommittee reviewed the working papers on the registration of hospitals with the PNC and found them to be fraudulent. They identified several registrations that required clarification.

They adjourned the meeting, expressing regret and frustration, with plans for further deliberation on the matter.
