ISLAMABAD: Under the chairmanship of Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the Senate Standing Committee on Education convened and provisionally approved the Islamabad Capital Student Union Bill 2023.
The committee actively encouraged its members to submit their suggestions within one week’s time.
In a Standing Committee meeting, a briefing regarding the Islamabad Capital Student Union Bill 2023 took place on Wednesday.
Senator Behrmand Tangi emphasized that the absence of student unions in educational institutions causes issues, citing a three-month closure of the University of Peshawar due to protests.
She clarified that the bill aims to empower students and is devoid of political motivation, asserting that it will address teaching-related problems in universities.
Senator Jam Mehtab Dahar contended that unionization would reduce university protests. However, a Higher Education Commission (HEC) representative suggested councils instead of student unions.
