Sedition Case

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in the federal capital postponed the indictment of former information minister Fawad Chaudhry in the sedition case on Wednesday.

During the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, who was responsible for framing charges against the former PTI leader, was informed by Chaudhry’s lawyer that his client was unable to appear before the court because he was in Lahore.

The lawyer stated that his client had to visit Lahore due to his ailing mother and requested an exemption from appearing in court.

Subsequently, the judge granted the exemption request and scheduled Fawad Chaudhry’s appearance for indictment on October 3.

Last month, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) accepted the unconditional apology of former federal minister and PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in the contempt case.

In August of the previous year, the ECP had issued notices to Chaudhry and others for allegedly using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral body.
