Security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan, killing six terrorists and injuring six others, as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday. According to a statement from the military’s media wing, the operation was launched on Saturday following reports of the presence of militants described as “khwarij.”
“During the operation, our troops effectively targeted the militants’ location, resulting in the deaths of six khwarij and injuries to six others,” the statement said.
ISPR reported the recovery of weapons and ammunition from the militants, who were implicated in multiple attacks on security forces and the killing of civilians. The military added that a sanitization operation is underway to ensure the area is free from remaining militants, affirming Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.
Amid rising militancy, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, Pakistan has faced increased attacks since the Taliban assumed control in Afghanistan. Just recently, on Saturday, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive at a Quetta railway station, killing at least 27 and injuring over 60.
A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) revealed that terrorist violence and counter-terror operations led to a 90% spike in fatalities during the third quarter of 2024 (July-September). The report recorded 722 deaths, including civilians, security personnel, and militants, alongside 615 injuries across 328 incidents. Nearly 97% of fatalities occurred in KP and Balochistan, reflecting the highest rate in a decade and with over 92% of terror-related incidents concentrated in these regions.
