Saudi Meteorology Center Warns of Sweltering Temperatures During Upcoming Hajj Pilgrimage

The head of the Saudi National Centre of Meteorology, Ayman Ghulam, reported that the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia next month is expected to face scorching temperatures.

Ghulam highlighted that this year’s Hajj season, scheduled from June 24 to 29, will coincide with the “hottest time of year” in the region, characterized by high temperatures and humidity levels.

Given these conditions, Ghulam emphasized the importance of coordinating with relevant agencies to disseminate weather forecasts for the holy places, enabling them to implement necessary precautions during the pilgrimage.

The extreme heat poses significant health hazards for the millions of Muslims expected to participate in the annual pilgrimage to Makkah and surrounding sacred sites. Saudi authorities are gearing up for an anticipated surge in pilgrim numbers, following a recent influx of 30 million Umrah pilgrims during Ramazan.

To address the challenges posed by the heat, organizers are prioritizing measures to ensure the well-being of pilgrims, including providing ample hydration and cooling facilities at encampments. These efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the harsh weather conditions on pilgrims throughout the Hajj pilgrimage.

In addition to providing hydration and cooling facilities, Saudi authorities are implementing various other measures to safeguard the health and safety of pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage. Enhanced medical services and emergency response capabilities will be put in place to address any health-related concerns promptly.

Medical personnel will be stationed strategically across the holy sites to provide immediate assistance to pilgrims in need. Moreover, awareness campaigns will be conducted to educate pilgrims about the importance of staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and recognizing the signs of heat-related illnesses.

Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has undertaken significant infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the influx of pilgrims expected during the Hajj season. Upgrades to roads, transportation systems, and accommodation facilities have been carried out to enhance the overall pilgrim experience and ensure smooth logistics during the pilgrimage.

These efforts aim to provide pilgrims with a comfortable and safe environment as they fulfill their religious obligations. With meticulous planning and preparation, Saudi authorities are committed to facilitating a successful and spiritually enriching Hajj pilgrimage for all participants, despite the challenges posed by the extreme weather conditions.
