Saudi Health Ministry Issues Stern Warning to Hajj Pilgrims Amidst Scorching Temperatures

The Ministry of Health (MoH) of Saudi Arabia issued a stern warning to Hajj pilgrims on Thursday regarding the soaring temperatures expected during this year’s pilgrimage.

According to the MoH, temperatures in some mountainous areas of the Holy Sites could surge as high as 72 degrees Celsius, posing significant health risks to pilgrims. In light of these extreme conditions, the MoH emphasized the dangers of prolonged exposure to sunlight, citing it as the primary challenge faced by pilgrims during this Hajj season.

Saudi authorities have advised pilgrims to take precautionary measures such as using umbrellas to shield themselves from direct sunlight and maintaining adequate hydration by drinking water regularly, regardless of thirst. The Ministry further urged pilgrims to strictly adhere to health guidelines, including avoiding outdoor activities and direct sun exposure between the hours of 11 am to 3 pm, when temperatures are at their peak.

“This year’s Hajj season in Makkah presents unique challenges due to exceptionally high temperatures,” remarked a spokesperson from the Ministry of Health. “Our priority is the safety and well-being of all pilgrims, and we urge them to follow our recommendations closely to mitigate any health risks.”

The MoH has implemented these measures to ensure that pilgrims can perform their religious duties safely and effectively amidst the challenging climatic conditions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates and support to pilgrims throughout their journey.

In addition to these advisories, the MoH has established cooling stations and first-aid centers throughout the pilgrimage routes to provide immediate assistance to those affected by heat-related illnesses. Pilgrims are advised to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to the Ministry’s health directives for a safe and fulfilling Hajj experience.
