Sania Mirza’s Father Breaks Silence on Recent Divorce

Divorce

The persistent rumors surrounding the marital discord between Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza and former Pakistani cricket captain Shoaib Malik since 2022 have now been confirmed by none other than Sania’s father, Imran Mirza.

The revelation follows Shoaib Malik’s announcement on a Saturday that he had entered into a second marriage with renowned Pakistani actor Sana Javed in Karachi, signaling the end of his 13-year union with Sania Mirza.

Shoaib Malik, who had tied the knot with the Indian tennis star in April 2010, took to social media to unveil his new chapter in life, sharing a photo with his new wife and captioning it with the poignant words, “And we created you in pairs.” The announcement came amid growing speculation about the couple’s strained relationship, marked by rare public appearances together and Malik’s decision to unfollow Sania Mirza on Instagram.

Imran Mirza disclosed that Sania Mirza had exercised her right to “khula,” a provision in Islamic law that allows a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband. According to him, Sania was dissatisfied with Shoaib Malik’s involvement with other women, shedding light on the reasons behind their marital dissolution.

Sania Mirza, a trailblazer for women in Indian sports, had retired from tennis the previous year after an illustrious 20-year career. During her tenure, she amassed an impressive 43 WTA doubles titles and a notable singles trophy.

The confirmation of her divorce from Shoaib Malik adds a personal dimension to her already remarkable journey, prompting reflection on the challenges faced by women in both professional sports and personal relationships.
