Syed Furqan Haider Rizvi, a distinguished stage producer celebrated for his work in both Pakistan and the United States, has passed away. Known for his vast contributions to theater, Rizvi will be laid to rest in Dallas on Sunday, November 11. His family has invited prayers for his forgiveness and peace in the afterlife.
Rizvi, who battled kidney disease, was a transformative figure in Pakistani theater, instrumental in bringing famed actors like Omar Sharif and Moin Akhtar into the spotlight. His impressive career spanned over 250 stage plays, often embedding meaningful social messages and tackling contemporary issues. Rizvi’s productions were performed in multiple languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, and Memoni, reflecting his dedication to cultural diversity in the arts. Among his most acclaimed works were “Bakra Qiston Par,” “Musibbat Dar Musibbat,” and “Bachao Moin Akhtar,” all of which earned international acclaim and bolstered the global reputation of Pakistani theater.
Despite his health challenges, Furqan Rizvi continued his passion for theater until the very end. Just two weeks before his passing, he produced his final play, “Dulha Online,” in Dallas, showcasing a cast of notable artists flown in from Pakistan. This dedication to his craft, even in his final days, was a testament to his enduring commitment to the stage and his legacy as a pioneer in theater.
His funeral will be held at the Momin Center in Dallas, followed by his burial at the Denton Muslim Cemetery. As the theater community mourns the loss of a visionary, his works continue to inspire and bring joy to audiences worldwide.
