Relative of Gandapur
Saqlain Khan Gandapur, a relative of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in the Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan district.
The victim’s family has confirmed that his father, Ismail Khan, is the Chief Minister’s uncle.
This tragic event occurred on the heels of Chief Minister Gandapur’s press conference in Peshawar, where he spoke about the improvements in the security situation in the province and the active role of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
The timing of the shooting has sparked significant concern and speculation, particularly given that Chief Minister Gandapur had just announced an additional one billion rupees in funding for the CTD.
He had also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing the provincial government’s commitment to improving security.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister revealed that the quota for martyrs’ families had been increased from 5% to over 12%, highlighting the provincial government’s efforts to support the families of fallen soldiers and law enforcement personnel.
Despite these optimistic statements, the shooting incident has raised questions about the reality of the security situation in the province.
The timing of the attack—coming just one day after Gandapur’s positive remarks—has led to doubts about the true state of security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in rural areas like Dera Ismail Khan.
The incident has cast a shadow over the government’s claims of improvement, with many pointing out the vulnerability of high-profile figures and their families, even in areas that are supposed to be under enhanced security.
Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the shooting and have promised swift action to apprehend those responsible.
As the investigation unfolds, there will likely be further scrutiny of the government’s efforts to tackle the ongoing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The incident underscores the complex nature of the security situation in the province, where improvements are being touted, but incidents like this reveal the ongoing risks faced by both civilians and officials.
