On Tuesday, Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi, who is the Parliamentary Secretary for Science and Technology, Law, and Parliamentary Affairs, said that laws were being made to lower the mother mortality rate (MMR) in Balochistan.
She was very worried about the rise in MMR across the province and praised the World Health Organization’s (WHO) technical help in stopping it.
“To fix the alarming situation with MMR in Balochistan, the draught law is being finished, and after the health department finishes all the legal paperwork, this bill will be presented to the legislative assembly,” she said here on Tuesday while talking to Regional Head of WHO Quetta Dr. Asfand Yar Shirani, Consultant Anam Arif, and Deputy Head of MNCH Balochistan Dr. Sarmad Saeed.
The proposed draught law to stop MMR-related deaths and the steps the government has taken so far to stop this from happening were discussed in detail. Dr. Buledi said that Pakistan has the most children who are too short for their age.
She said, “Mothers who were malnourished as children gave birth to children without going through a rehabilitation program to fix their physical problems.” She was worried that this could have bad effects on the pregnant woman, the baby, and the whole family.
Poor women don’t get the nutrition they need during pregnancy because they don’t have enough money and don’t know what they need to eat.
