On Monday, Rana Shamim’s attorney tendered an unqualified written apology on behalf of the former chief judge of Gilgit-Baltistan to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a contempt of court case brought against him.
This issue involves allegations that former Pakistani CJP Saqib Nisar attempted to influence a case involving former PM Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz.
In London, the IHC formally charged Shamim for the claims he made against the former CJP in a written affidavit.
More information can be found at “Saqib Nisar directed not to release Nawaz, Maryam before 2018 elections,” as claimed by the former chief justice of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Shamim’s lawyer, Abdul Latif, submitted a writtezn apology, in which his client admitted that he had met with ex-CJ Nisar for tea and listened to Nisar’s viewpoints.
When asked to explain his actions, Shamim wrote, “I had heard the words’ senior puisne judge repeatedly from the [former] CJP during the gathering at the tea in the lawn.
Extreme mental stress: Rana Shamim
He wrote his declaration “after nearly three long years” following the meeting he described above, and said he was under tremendous mental stress and was a “serious heart patient” at the age of 72.
Shamim claims this is why he accidentally spelled “senior puisne judge” as “Justice Aamir” in the affidavit.
He requested an unequivocal apology for the “terrible mistake” he had made by accident.
Shamim added that he has been apologising and displaying regret for his misunderstanding since the beginning of the contempt case.
He said, “I cannot possibly conceive of scandalizing the very institution I have served with such devotion and the highest degree of professionalism.”
The apologist said at the end of the letter: “I express unqualified repentance to all sitting judges of this honorable court for the grave misunderstanding and mistake on my part and place myself at the mercy of this… court with a humble appeal for gracious forgiveness.”
