Raja Riaz

ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader in the National Assembly Raja Riaz will give the name of a renowned technocrat to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during consultation for the selection of a caretaker prime minister.

According to sources, Raja Riaz will also give a couple of names of the probable for the caretaker premier. He, however, will not give the name of any political leader. He is set to shock the Prime Minister by presenting the name of a renowned technocrat.

Thus, how the prime minister and the opposition leader select the name of a caretaker prime minister, will emerge when they sit together to discuss names, already short-listed for the caretaker prime minister.

The candidates under consideration for the position of caretaker prime minister.

On Friday, the coalition partners gave a free hand to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to nominate anyone for the position of caretaker prime minister.

However, the political situation is not as easy as the PDM leaders are discussing in their meetings.

So far, neither the prime minister nor any other senior political leader of the coalition parties involved the opposition leader Raja Riaz in the selection of a caretaker prime minister.

Hence, we must expect something unexpected from the meeting of the Prime Minister with the Opposition leader Raja Riaz. According to sources, Raja Riaz can present the name of either Dr. Hafeez Sheikh or Hafeez Pasha. Dr. Hafeez Sheikh is the most suitable for the establishment as caretaker prime minister.

Why Raja Riaz will be supporting a technocrat for the caretaker premier? It is the question that comes to the mind of the readers. Raja Riaz will try to oblige the powerful circles in the country who have a say in the system.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Aslam Bhootani

Meanwhile, the names of former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and independent lawmaker from Balochistan Aslam Bhootani, among others, are under consideration for the caretaker prime minister position.

Currently, the coalition partners are having a Zoom meeting to exchange views on the caretaker setup. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, and other senior leaders participated in the virtual meeting.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders have held back-to-back meetings, but they are yet to make a decision.

During Thursday’s dinner, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the dissolution of the National Assembly on August 9, three days before its term ends.

According to the laws, if any assembly completes its tenure before dissolution, elections to the legislature are held within 60 days. However, the ECP will hold elections within 90 days after the premature dissolution of the assembly.
