Light rain around Karachi Airport has caused substantial flight disruptions, leading the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to ground smaller aircraft over safety concerns. The rainy season has worsened flight challenges for these planes due to low visibility, while adverse weather, low passenger loads, and operational issues have impacted airport activities, resulting in numerous cancellations for both domestic and international flights.
Airport sources disclosed that 16 outbound flights, operated by both local and international carriers, were cancelled. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cancelled six flights, including:
- PK 503 to Gwadar
- PK 731 to Jeddah
- PK 536 to Sukkur
- PK 306 to Lahore
- PK 340 to Faisalabad (scheduled for 10:30 am)
- PK 310 to Quetta
Other airlines were also affected by weather-related disruptions. AirSial and Serene Air each cancelled three flights, including AirSial’s PF 121 to Islamabad, and PF 143 and PF 145 to Lahore. Serene Air’s ER 504 to Islamabad, along with ER 522 and ER 524 to Lahore, were also cancelled.
Additional cancellations included Al Jazeera Air flight 5096 to Baku, Iran Air flight 813 to Tehran, and Qatar Airways flight QR 611 to Doha. Fly Jinnah cancelled flights 852 to Quetta and 672 to Islamabad.
Passengers are advised to monitor flight statuses closely and remain patient as the CAA ensures safety during ongoing weather disturbances.
