Old Video
Renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has vehemently denied allegations stemming from a leaked video, asserting that the footage in question is nine months old and is being maliciously circulated to defame him. Speaking on the Adeel Asif Podcast uploaded on YouTube, Rahat expressed remorse for his actions shown in the video, where he was seen allegedly beating his pupil for misplacing a bottle containing special water.
Addressing the controversy, Rahat clarified that the person subjected to the beating was his student, not a servant, and he apologized for his actions during the podcast. He acknowledged the negative publicity surrounding the incident but suggested that such controversies often attract attention, leading to increased viewership ratings.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan described the video as a targeted “tool” used against him, claiming to be aware of the individuals responsible for its circulation. He mentioned that the person named Naveed, featured in the video, was not just a band member but his closest student, with a familial relationship spanning years. Rahat highlighted Naveed’s familial connection to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, emphasizing their longstanding association.
Moreover, the singer stated that he has provided moral and financial support to Naveed. In a separate video, Rahat apologized to his family, friends, and fans, expressing a commitment to avoiding such mistakes in the future.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that an old inquiry against Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been reopened by the Federal Investigation Agency. The inquiry, initially related to money laundering and tax evasion, was prompted by revelations that the singer earned nearly Rs8 billion in 12 years from local and international concerts. Sources within the Federal Board of Revenue indicated discrepancies between Rahat’s reported income and tax payment records.
