Punjab traffic police issued more than 841,000 driving licences in November 2024, showcasing substantial progress in licence issuance across the province.
According to the monthly performance report by the Punjab traffic police spokesperson, the total included over 243,000 learner licences issued to new drivers. Additionally, approximately 308,000 fresh driving licences were granted during this period, while around 284,000 licences were renewed, covering both learner and regular categories.
The report also highlighted that over 4,500 international driving licences were issued to citizens. Licensing centers in major cities remained operational round the clock to facilitate applicants, stated Additional Inspector General (IG) of Traffic.
In a related update, the Punjab traffic police announced a dedicated initiative to issue driving licences to rickshaw drivers. The decision was finalized during a meeting between the Additional IG Traffic and the Secretary of Transport. As part of this initiative, special driving tests for rickshaw drivers will be conducted every Sunday at designated licensing centers across the province.
In 2023, Punjab set a significant milestone by issuing over 10 million driving licences. Former Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi acknowledged this achievement on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Alhamdulillah! Punjab surpasses 1 crore driving licences in 2023! Kudos to Punjab Police and PITB for their dedicated efforts in achieving this milestone.”
The latest figures for November 2024 reflect the province’s commitment to enhancing road safety and facilitating drivers with efficient licence services.
