Punjab Implements 3-Level Security Guidelines for Muharram Processions

Muharram Processions

The Punjab Home Department has issued comprehensive security guidelines for Muharram processions and congregations, emphasizing the necessity of foolproof security measures for all imambargahs and related gatherings.

The department’s directive mandates a robust three-level security framework to ensure the safety and security of all participants during these religious events.

According to the Home Department, three-level security coverage is mandatory for all gatherings.

This includes the allocation of separate entrance and exit routes for processions and congregations to manage the flow of participants efficiently and enhance security.

Additionally, the installation of walk-through gates at all sensitive locations is a requirement, aiming to prevent any unauthorized access and ensure thorough security checks.

The guidelines further stipulate that every individual attending the gatherings must undergo a security check using metal detectors.

Furthermore, CCTV surveillance should be employed to record every person entering the event, thereby maintaining a comprehensive log of attendees for security purposes.

The guidelines also address the use of loudspeakers, which are restricted to the confines of the assembly area to prevent any external disturbances. The importance of punctuality for all events and activities within the gatherings is underscored to ensure orderly conduct.

Health and safety measures are also included in the guidelines, with a specific focus on the distribution of niaz (charity food), langar (community kitchen meals), and sabil (free drinks).

The Home Department has directed that these items should be inspected by the Health Department before distribution to ensure they meet health and safety standards.

Parking arrangements are another critical aspect of the security plan. The guidelines mandate that parking facilities should be located at least 200 meters away from the gathering area to prevent any potential security threats posed by parked vehicles.

These detailed security measures reflect the Punjab Home Department’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all participants during Muharram processions and congregations.

The directives are designed to create a secure environment for the observance of these significant religious events, emphasizing vigilance and thorough security protocols at every level.
