LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has approved the launch of a large-scale electric bus network, with plans to deploy 1,500 buses across major cities in the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif gave the go-ahead for the project, which aims to overhaul the public transport infrastructure and promote sustainable commuting.
The first phase will see the rollout of 380 electric buses in Lahore and Gujranwala, set to begin operations by June. Subsequent phases will expand the network to cities including Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
The project also involves the construction of a state-of-the-art Transport Tower Command and Control Center in Lahore, designed to oversee and manage bus operations efficiently.
Additionally, a network of charging stations will be built to support the buses, aiding the transition to clean energy.
This initiative is a key step toward modernizing public transportation and reducing the environmental impact of urban travel in Punjab.
