Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered strict action against transport operators charging excessive fares ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
She directed district administrations across the province to enforce fixed fare rates and closely monitor transport services. Additionally, she emphasized that fare lists must be prominently displayed at all bus terminals to prevent overpricing.
In a province-wide crackdown on fare exploitation, authorities have fined 97 vehicles, imposing penalties amounting to Rs. 500,000. Legal action has also been taken against 10 individuals, including two drivers, for illegally overcharging passengers.
A spokesperson for the district administration confirmed that late-night operations were conducted under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza, leading to the immediate reimbursement of unlawfully collected fares. Complaints revealed that passengers were being charged additional amounts ranging from Rs. 200 to Rs. 700.
DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza stressed that passenger rights must be safeguarded, warning transporters against fare manipulation and overloading. He affirmed that strict legal consequences await violators, ensuring a fair and smooth travel experience for Eid travelers.
