PTI’s Asad Qaiser sent to Adiala jail on judicial remand

ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate in Islamabad has issued an order to detain senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser in prison on Saturday, following his arrest a day prior.

Following this court order, Asad Qaiser was transferred to Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail by the Islamabad Police.

Previously, a team from the Anti-Corruption Establishment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took the former National Assembly speaker into custody on charges of embezzlement.

Magistrate Qudratullah also instructed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s top anti-graft department to fulfill the necessary legal requirements within a week.

On Friday, Qaiser was moved to Bani Gala Police Station for further questioning in relation to his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal at Gajju Khan Medical College in Swabi.

Last week, Qaiser and Ali Muhammad Khan had a meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to offer condolences for the sad passing of his mother-in-law and to discuss the current political situation in the country.

Former Minister Fawad Chaudhry Arrested In Islamabad

In another development, former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry was reportedly apprehended at his Islamabad residence and taken to an undisclosed location on a Saturday.

This incident was confirmed by his wife, Hiba Fawad Chaudhary, who stated that her husband was arrested by a combination of police and plainclothes individuals. She expressed confusion about the reasons behind Fawad’s arrest, and this information was shared on social media as well.

The precise motives for Fawad’s arrest on that day remain unclear. It should be noted that he had previously faced legal action in multiple cases both before and after the May 9 riots, which were triggered by the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan earlier in the year due to corruption allegations.

In January, Fawad was arrested from his residence after he allegedly issued threats against the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during a media appearance outside Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park. However, the government at the time denied involvement in his arrest.

In June of the same year, Fawad issued an apology to the electoral watchdog for his use of inappropriate language directed at the ECP and Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja.

Fawad was also one of the many PTI party workers and leaders who had been detained during the crackdown on the PTI since May 9, following their alleged involvement in the riots, which resulted in at least 8 fatalities and numerous injuries.

After his release from custody, following his re-arrest on May 10 outside the Supreme Court, the politician maintained a low profile and refrained from making political statements.
