Imran Khan, the former prime minister now incarcerated, has authorized the leadership of the PTI to engage in discussions with both the establishment and other political parties, as stated by party leader Shibli Faraz during a press conference in Lahore on Saturday.
Faraz emphasized that the terms of reference for these talks would be established in accordance with Imran Khan’s directives. He noted that various leaders would engage in dialogue with both the establishment and political parties based on these terms.
On Friday, PTI leader Shehryar Afridi expressed the party’s intention to solely engage in discussions with the army chief and the spymaster, amidst growing calls for dialogue with the government.
Following his removal from power, Khan had similarly advocated for talks with the establishment.
Faraz highlighted the prevailing political instability in the country and stressed the importance of defining the parameters for negotiations before proceeding. He emphasized the necessity of determining the manner and environment for the negotiations beforehand, only then could discussions commence with the relevant stakeholders.
Faraz reiterated the importance of holding talks but insisted that they must involve all relevant stakeholders.
He further stated that understanding the powers of the current government was crucial for laying the groundwork for talks to proceed.
