A verbal dispute erupted on Monday at Adiala Jail involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, and other key figures in the party, including Khan’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry and Bushra Bibi’s spokesperson, Mashal Yousafzai. The disagreement centered around the November 24 Islamabad protest, which was called by the former prime minister.
During a new hearing for the Toshakhana case, Bushra Bibi briefed Imran Khan on the protest, mentioning that no substantial mobilization had occurred from Punjab. Barrister Gohar Khan intervened, stating that 5,000 people had been arrested in Punjab, discussing the crackdown and mass arrests targeting PTI members in the region.
Aleema Khan then questioned Faisal Chaudhry about the lack of access to newspapers and other facilities for her brother. Chaudhry responded by stating that he had done his best and expressed concerns about the absence of senior party officials in court. Aleema also inquired about the monitoring commission set up by the Islamabad High Court, to which Mashal Yousafzai accused Chaudhry of hindering its work. In reply, Chaudhry clarified that the commission was court-mandated and beyond his control.
Barrister Gohar suggested that some decisions should be left to the leadership to avoid confusion and unnecessary debate. Imran Khan attributed the reluctance in Punjab to authoritarian actions in the region and mentioned that 200 participants of the D-Chowk protest were still missing.
This incident marks the second disagreement in less than 10 days, following a similar confrontation on December 5, where Aleema Khan had also clashed with Barrister Gohar and Barrister Salman Akram Raja over claims regarding deaths during the protests.
