ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Supreme Court Advocate Sher Afzal Khan Marwat claimed on Monday that his house was raided at 2:00 am, and the individuals involved were wearing masks. Marwat made these assertions before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) during a hearing on a petition related to the recovery of missing Baloch students.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC expressed astonishment that such an incident was happening to Marwat, an elected member of parliament and a senior lawyer, in Islamabad. The court questioned the implications for a common man in Balochistan if an elected lawmaker faced such treatment in the federal capital.
In a tweet, Marwat claimed that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police raided his house, causing damage to doors, stressing out his family and staff, and confiscating his laptop. However, Islamabad Police denied the claim, stating that they did not raid Marwat’s house and accused him of spreading fake news.
Justice Kayani, expressing concern over the behavior of the inspector general of police, suggested that if the behavior was not rectified, the IG should be removed. He questioned why a raid was conducted at night when the person in question was available during the day. The court directed the home secretary to call the Islamabad IG and CTD to take a written statement on the matter.
Justice Kayani highlighted that such incidents were known to the entire system, including judges, but everyone remained silent. He criticized the treatment of an elected Member of the National Assembly (MNA) and Supreme Court advocate, calling it shameful. Marwat proposed putting the Islamabad IG behind bars for 10 days to address the situation.
