On Wednesday, PTI leader Aliya Hamza was released from Gujranwala Central Jail after securing bail in connection with the May 9 case and following directives from the Lahore High Court.
After her release, Aliya expressed her support with a spirited declaration: “Long live Imran Khan. Long live Pakistan.” PTI supporters celebrated her freedom by showering her with flower petals as she approached the vehicle that came to collect her from the jail.
Last month, the district and sessions judge of Gujranwala, Javed Iqbal, had granted Aliya bail in the May 9 vandalism case.
On the same day as her release, the Lahore High Court addressed a petition challenging her arrest in additional cases. Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, who heard the petition filed by Aliya’s husband, ruled that no agency could arrest her without prior authorization from the court. He prohibited any further arrest until August 29 and instructed Aliya’s lawyer to submit her bail bonds.
Additionally, the court asked Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Awan to provide a report detailing any first information reports (FIRs) lodged against Aliya by the next hearing date. This report is expected to clarify the charges and any related legal actions taken against her.
