PTI denounces fundraising campaign for supporting Imran Khan’s legal battle

ISLAMABAD: The PTI has criticized a fundraising campaign allegedly intended to gather funds for the legal battles of the party’s leader, Imran Khan. Naeem Haider Panjutha, the legal aide to the PTI chief, clarified that Imran Khan had not issued any instructions to raise funds for his legal team. Previously, a legal foundation claimed on social media that Khan directed them to raise £1 million fund for legal purposes.

He stated, “Be aware, no such instructions have been given by @ImranKhanPTI to any of his authorized legal team members. It is also clarified that Imran Khan has not authorized anyone to collect funds in this regard. Therefore, it is clarified and declared that no one shall contribute any funding for Imran Khan’s legal battles, either at the national level or in international forums. So please avoid.”

This response followed the circulation of a statement attributed to the Human Rights Legal Aid Foundation on social media, claiming that Khan had directed a team of lawyers in London to handle his legal case. The statement also announced the initiation of a £1 million fund supposedly endorsed by Khan himself.

The statement indicated that the organization also represented individuals within PTI, including Khadija Shah, Sanam Raja, and Dr. Yasmin Rashid.

However, Zulfi Bukhari from PTI clarified that the party has not entered into any agreement with the mentioned organization. He emphasized, “Let me make it categorically clear! Neither Imran Khan nor PTI has instructed or appointed any legal team thus far. Nor does anyone have any mandate from him or the party. PTI has absolutely no connection to this organization or any fundraising associated with it.”

Bukhari warned that anyone attempting to raise funds under the name of Imran Khan or PTI would face legal action initiated by the party itself.

Barrister Gohar Khan affirmed that the PTI’s legal team would issue notices to those who attempted to raise funds on behalf of the PTI chairman. He asserted that neither Imran Khan nor any legal team member had authorized fundraising for legal matters. He promised legal action against those involved in this unauthorized fundraising, terming it an attempt to defame and commit fraud against Imran Khan, PTI, and the legal team.
