PTI decides to file a reference in SJC against the Chief Justice of IHC for not suspending Imran Khan’s sentence

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has made an announcement that it would initiate a reference against Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). This decision follows a ruling by a bench led by the Chief Justice, which declined to suspend the sentence of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.

The PTI Core Committee, responsible for party affairs during the chairman’s detention made the announcement. It expressed its dissatisfaction with the IHC’s decision to adjourn the case until Thursday, August 24.

The party asserted, “A resolution has been reached to file a reference against Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court in the Supreme Judicial Council in order to uphold the judiciary’s independence.”

Additionally, the PTI called upon Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to take note of the manner in which the Chief Justice of the IHC delivered the ruling regarding the case.

The party emphasized, “The Chief Justice of Pakistan should ensure a fair trial for the PTI chairman in accordance with Article 10-A”. It also requested the IHC Chief Justice to distance himself from the case immediately.

Accusing the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court of undermining the principles of law and justice, the PTI contended, “The delay in delivering justice is equivalent to the annihilation of justice.” The party further alleged that the decision to adjourn proceedings on that day was motivated by a desire to “sustain a series of vindictive actions and hostilities” against their party leader.
