Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram has confirmed that the party will hold a protest on October 4 at D-Chowk in Islamabad. This announcement comes as city authorities begin precautionary measures, including the deployment of containers in Faizabad, a key intersection in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Speaking via video link on “News Insight” with Amir Zia, Akram outlined details of the upcoming protests, explaining that demonstrations are planned for various cities. According to Akram, protests will take place in Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, and Mianwali on Wednesday, with a separate demonstration by lawyers scheduled outside the Supreme Court on the same day. He also noted that another protest is set for Lahore on October 5.
Akram emphasized that peaceful protest is a “fundamental right” and criticized recent legislation governing protests in Islamabad, describing it as unjust. He clarified that PTI’s protests are aimed at defending the independence of the judiciary, protecting the Constitution, and addressing the country’s growing inflation crisis.
The PTI leader further alleged that a proposed constitutional amendment was designed solely to ban the PTI and expose its leadership and workers to military trials. He stressed that the party remains committed to upholding democratic principles.
In anticipation of the protest at D-Chowk, police and local authorities have heightened security preparations in the twin cities. Containers have already been seized in Faizabad, a major junction, as a precautionary measure. Reports indicate that over a dozen containers were intercepted on the Faizabad flyover to block potential protest routes.
Law enforcement officials are closely monitoring the situation as the protests are expected to intensify in the coming days.
