ISLAMABAD: According to the reports, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has lodged a plea with the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the postponement of the general elections.
According to the provided information, the PTI has lodged a plea in the Supreme Court contesting the election postponement. The plea has entreated the apex court to instruct the president to declare the election date within 90 days.
The plea has emphasized that the Supreme Court should also mandate the ECP to release the schedule for the impending general elections.
They have requested the top court to nullify the CCI’s decision regarding the delimitation and the 2023 census.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) decreed that the forthcoming general elections must occur within 90 days.
LHC has dispatched notifications to both the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Principal Secretary of the President concerning the election date announcement.
However, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a statement asserting that all political parties have unanimously agreed to conduct general elections based on new census data.
The ECP affirmed that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) has unanimously sanctioned the 2023 census statistics and all political parties have concurred to hold general polls using the updated census data.
It’s noteworthy that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had declared that holding general elections within 90 days is not feasible.
The ECP has opted to conduct the forthcoming general election based on the 2023 census.
The ECP explained that it is bound to execute the delimitation process, with the first publication scheduled for October 9 and the final publication set for December 14.
