Adiala Jail
RAWALPINDI: The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister to Adiala jail in the cipher case.
PTI’s chief counsel, Sher Afzal Marwat, confirmed that the PTI chairman is now placed in a room with attached facilities in Adiala jail.
During the hearing on Chairman PTI’s plea to transfer him from Attock jail to Adiala jail, Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court questioned why still they were holding the former prime minister in Attock jail.
The Chief Justice observed that the status of Chairman PTI’s sentence had changed, and he is currently an undertrial, which implies that they should hold him in this jail with other undertrial prisoners.
Furthermore, the court requested an explanation from additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal, pointing out that the original court order in the Toshakhana case was to detain him in this jail.
In response, the additional Attorney General clarified that they had detained Chairman PTI in connection with the cipher case, and he was currently in Attock jail as per a court order. Following this response, the Chief Justice issued an order to shift the former prime minister to Adiala jail.
