The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the complete resolution of the recent internet slowdown experienced across the country. Following successful repairs on the SMW-4 submarine cable, internet services have been fully restored and are now operating at optimal speed and capacity.
A PTA spokesperson confirmed that the SMW-4 cable had been experiencing technical issues since June, contributing to disruptions in network and connectivity. Additionally, the AAE1 cable encountered faults in August, resulting in a significant shortfall of 1,750 Gbps. The recent rectification of both cables has ensured that the internet is now functioning smoothly, providing reliable connectivity to users across Pakistan.
The PTA reassured users that these issues have been permanently addressed, and efforts are being made to further strengthen the country’s network infrastructure. As part of its long-term plan, the PTA announced the introduction of three new submarine cables over the next two years. Two of these cables will be deployed by Transworld International, while one will be part of the PTCL cable system. These new additions are expected to significantly enhance the country’s internet capacity.
The Pace Cable, which was integrated into Pakistan’s network in 2023, also plays a key role in boosting the overall infrastructure. This addition has already increased the capacity to handle more data traffic, leading to improved connectivity for users.
The PTA expressed optimism regarding the improvements, stating that the recent repairs and future infrastructure developments will ensure more stable and efficient internet services across Pakistan. The statement comes as a relief to millions of users who faced connectivity challenges, and the PTA remains committed to providing uninterrupted internet access.
