Prime Minister departs for a one-day visit to the UAE to offer condolences on the death of President Sheikh Mohamed’s brother

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left for a one-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to express condolences on the passing of Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the brother of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and special assistant to the premier Tariq Fatemi are accompanying the Prime Minister on his visit.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb tweeted that the Prime Minister would meet with the UAE President during his short trip and convey condolences on behalf of the Pakistani nation.

The UAE Presidential Court announced Sheikh Saeed’s death through an obituary notice published by state news agency WAM on Thursday. The country is observing a three-day mourning period from July 27 to July 29, with flags flown at half-mast.

Sheikh Saeed was laid to rest at Al Bateen Cemetery in Abu Dhabi on Thursday afternoon. Born in 1965 in Al Ain, he was appointed the ruler’s representative in Abu Dhabi in June 2010.

PM Shehbaz expressed deep grief and extended condolences to the royal family and people of the UAE. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also conveyed his profound sadness over Sheikh Saeed’s death.
