The official notification detailing the seniority of Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges has been released. As per the document, Justice Sarfraz Dogar has been recognized as the most senior judge of the IHC and has now been appointed as its permanent Chief Justice.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani ranks second on the list, followed by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb in third place. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri is fourth, and Justice Babar Sattar holds the fifth spot.
The seniority list was finalized by the President of Pakistan based on judges’ service records, following guidelines issued by the Supreme Court. The Ministry of Law and Justice issued the notification after receiving presidential approval.
Further down the list, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq stands sixth, Justice Arbab Tahir seventh, Justice Saman Riffat eighth, Justice Khadim Soomro ninth, Justice Azam Khan tenth, Justice Muhammad Asif eleventh, and Justice Inam Minhas twelfth.
In addition, the notification makes permanent the earlier transfer of three judges—a decision also ratified by the President. Another pending legal matter was resolved at the same time.
Judicial Commission to discuss permanent Chief Justice appointment
The process to confirm the permanent Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court is progressing, with the Judicial Commission scheduled to meet on July 1.
According to reports, the commission will consider the top three senior judges for the role: Justice Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
A final decision is anticipated after the commission’s deliberations conclude.
