President Asif Ali Zardari met with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang on Tuesday, marking the first visit of a Chinese premier to Pakistan in eleven years. During their meeting, Prime Minister Li praised Pakistan for its strong support on fundamental issues, reaffirming China’s commitment to backing Pakistan’s territorial integrity, independence, and prosperity.
Zardari emphasized the importance of improving communication through all-weather roads to bolster both commercial and public relations between the two nations.
Separately, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq also met with Prime Minister Li in Islamabad, where they discussed enhancing bilateral relations. Both sides agreed to strengthen trade ties and collaborate on efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
In his remarks, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq noted that hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting is a significant honor for Pakistan, which will help project a positive image of the country and enhance regional cooperation. He underscored that China is a strategic partner for Pakistan and highlighted the intention to boost parliamentary cooperation, including the exchange of parliamentary delegations in the future.
